Student Spotlights – June 2026

Little Flower Vikings were happy to learn from the best when it comes to volleyball.  Coach Kate Wood, the head volleyball coach at McGill-Toolen, visited the school to give tips on setting, spiking, and blocking on the volleyball court.  Year after year the McT Dirty Dozen team has taken state honors.  Transitioning from a Viking to a Yellow Jacket would be an honor for any Little Flower Student.

Bright Academy was proud to partner with Sunnyside Theater for this year’s production of The Wizard of Oz, presented at the historic Jefferson Playhouse. This collaboration highlights the remarkable talent of our students, whose dedication, creativity, and hard work shone through every scene. Guided by the professional artistry of the Sunnyside team, our students brought beloved characters and imaginative storytelling to life with confidence and heart. It was a meaningful opportunity for students to grow, shine, and create something truly remarkable.
Together, this partnership created an unforgettable experience for families and the  community.

We are so proud of student, Hailey Charles, for leading a meaningful service project that truly made an impact in our community!
Thanks to the generosity of our school families, Hailey helped organize and deliver a full shopping cart of food to Feed the Need, a local charity that provided meals to approximately 90 families in March, and even more in the months before.
With the help of Reverend Stuart Worth, the donations were delivered and received with heartfelt gratitude. This simple act of service turned into something much bigger: hope, support, and care for families in need.
Way to go, Hailey, for leading with compassion and inspiring others to serve and make an impact!

Citronelle High School’s Allianna Byrd, Laney Rutland, Kinnery Goldman and Wren Melvin won the inaugural Alabama Power Hack-a-Thon: Grid Games! They won $500 and will go on to represent Mobile County at the state competition in Birmingham. Davidson’s Amir Calderon, Jeremy Bettis, Lauren Davis and Clara Walker finished second, and Citronelle’s Charly Davis, Kellan Gray, Dylan Croom and JD Williams placed third.

Mrs. Rathle’s art class at Little Flower Catholic School is a bee hive of activity as students finish pieces for their portfolio. Students pay attention to specific assignments and follow Mrs. Rathle’s instructions to achieve just the right results.

St. Pius X 8th Grade field trip to New Orleans. They visited the World War II Museum and visited the Shrine of Blessed Seelos, where they celebrated Mass together.

Congratulations to the 2026 Mobile County middle school soccer champions! Barton Academy swept both the boys’ and girls’ titles in the large school division, while Phillips Preparatory won the small school girls’ championship and Denton Magnet took the small school boys’ crown.

With a new chapter at Little Flower Catholic School, we welcome Mrs. Machen as our new principal for the 2026-2027 school year. We also congratulate her on her recent special day when she went from being Miss Mallory Hill to being Mrs. Jay Machen. We wish her and Mr. Machen a lifetime of happiness together. In the coming weeks as Mrs. Machen takes on this new role, we will bid Mrs. Ollis a fond farewell. She has covered lots of territory in her 3 years as principal at Little Flower School. Her new chapter will take her to the Mobile Archdiocese Office of Catholic Education where she will serve as the Associate Superintendent. Her decades of service to the Mobile Catholic school system will serve her well in this new position. We are so grateful for the gifts that Mrs. Machen and Mrs. Ollis have brought to Little Flower.

5th grader Josephine Crane recently completed her community service project as part of the Superintendent’s Red Ribbon Leadership Program through the Drug Education Council. This year’s theme, “We Love Our Hometown Heroes,” inspired Josephine to give back to pediatric nurses at USA Children’s & Women’s Hospital.
Back in February, Josephine organized a Pajama Day fundraiser and raised an amazing $580! She used those funds to create appreciation baskets filled with snacks and self-care goodies for all 5 nurse break rooms at the hospital.
On Thursday, March 26, Josephine delivered the baskets—spreading kindness and showing appreciation for the incredible nurses who care for children in our community.
Way to go, Josephine! We are so proud of your leadership, compassion, and commitment to serving others.

The Fifth-Grade Math Team from Old Shell Road Magnet School, led by 5th-grade teacher, Ms. Hughes, competed in the Mobile County Math Competition. 5th-grade student, Wesley Keesee, had a perfect score, and the Ciphering Team placed 4th out of 25 teams after a tiebreaker. Way to go, Rockstars!

Covenant’s 5th grade field trip to Dauphin Island Sea Lab was a huge success, filled with hands-on learning, teamwork, and plenty of fun along the Alabama coast. With beautiful weather setting the stage for the day, students had the opportunity to explore marine science up close while learning about local bay animals, ecosystems, and coastal conservation. Throughout the trip, students participated in interactive activities that encouraged curiosity, collaboration, and problem-solving as they stepped into the role of young scientists. From exploring exhibits to engaging in team-based learning experiences, the day was packed with memorable moments both educational and exciting. The trip gave students a chance to connect classroom lessons to real-world experiences while making lasting memories with classmates and teachers alike.

Congratulations to Semmes Middle School and Phillips Preparatory, which swept the Mobile County middle school track and field championships. Semmes won both the boys’ and girls’ titles in the large school division, while both the Phillips boys and girls finished first in the small schools.

The talented young performers in the St. Dominic Catholic School drama program recently took audiences on a magical journey with their production of Aladdin! From colorful costumes and sets to impressive acting and stage presence, the students showcased months of creativity and dedication.
The production gave students the opportunity to build confidence, work as a team, and build performance skills while sharing their talents with family and friends. Congratulations to these drama students and directors on an unforgettable performance!

WKRG News 5 brought their news crew and sponsors to the campus of St. Dominic Catholic School to surprise Ms. Gabby Seibert, the middle school English teacher, with the Golden Apple Award. Ms. Seibert and her class were about to leave for a field trip when she found out that she had been nominated for this award by one of her own students, Allison Graham.
The student’s words were read aloud as Ms. Seibert’s and many others’ eyes filled with tears. Graham had written, “Ms. Seibert goes out of her way to help her students in any way that she can. She makes sure we succeed in our classes, but she also wants us to succeed in our personal lives.”
“Ms. Seibert will talk to us about the things that we struggle with at home and help us work through difficulties with friends and classmates. Whenever we walk into her classroom, it brightens up our day.”
“She is always in a good mood, dressed in a fun outfit, and her classroom is cheerful. She regularly has classroom makeovers to make lessons more fun and engaging. One day, I walked into her classroom, and it was changed to look like a courtroom. It made learning more fun that day. Since Ms. Seibert has been at St. Dominic, she has made a huge impact on the school and the students’ education,”
Clearly, Ms. Seibert is making an impact through her excellence in the teaching profession. The families at St. Dominic are benefitting from the influence of this award-winning educator!

Council’s Family S.T.E.A.M. Night was a huge success. We were blown away by the enthusiasm and engagement from our student, families, and teachers. Students had a blast exploring fascinating marine specimens with the Dauphin Island Sea Lab’s BayMobile, piloting the SeaPerch underwater robot, flying drones, producing chemical reactions, creating beautiful artwork, Lego building, driving Vex robots, and so much more. A Special Thanks to the UTEACH South volunteers and our local heroes at Mobile County EMS and Mobile Fire Department for bringing out the Ambulance, Fire Rescue Truck, Engine and Ladder Truck. We can’t wait for next year!

Eichold Mertz students had a wonderful time at our Father-Daughter & Mother-Son event for our K–2nd graders and 3rd-5th. It was such a special evening filled with smiles, laughter, and unforgettable moments between parents and their children. Thank you to everyone who came out and made the night so meaningful for our students!

Piano Major students from Floretta P Carson Visual and Performing Arts Academy won 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in the middle school division and 2nd place in high school division at Spotlight, Distinguished Women Talent Show. Jackson Sanderson who won the 1st place and received the award of $500 decided to donate it to the Art Program of his school.
2nd place winner is Kha’jeria Griffin, 3rd place winner is Olivia Rodriguez. 2nd place winner in the high school division is Jada Johnson.

Covenant Christian Field Day was one for the books! From start to finish, the energy, teamwork, and excitement were unmatched! Each team was made up of one student from every grade level, and it was incredible to watch them come together—encouraging, cheering, and lifting each other up every step of the way. Our middle schoolers absolutely
shined as team captains, leading with confidence, kindness, and so much heart. Watching
the “bigs” support and guide the “littles” was hands down the best part of the day!

The HCA Archery Team has been named the 2026 NASP On Target for Life Community Service Award winner, a national honor recognizing teams that demonstrate outstanding leadership, character, and service.
This award goes beyond performance on the range; it celebrates a team’s commitment to making a difference. The HCA archers have consistently shown a heart for serving others through outreach efforts, teamwork, and intentional acts of kindness.
Their dedication reflects the core values of both their school and the NASP program, proving that success is measured not only by scores but by impact.
The team will be recognized for this achievement at the Eastern National Tournament, where they will represent their school and community with excellence.

FPC Theatre Department attended the Trumbauer State Theatre festival, where we placed 3rd for Readers Theatre, First in Original Works, and 2 All Star performers for the Studio Theatre Festival.

Old Shell Road School of Creative and Performing Arts kindergarten and 1st-grade students performed E-I-E-I-Oops! the musical. We are so proud of our young singers, dancers, and actors!

The HCA Archery Team delivered an outstanding performance at the 2026 Alabama State Championship, earning a place on the national stage.
Competing against top teams across the state, the Lions finished 12th in the High School Division with an impressive team score of 3207, officially qualifying them for the NASP Eastern National Tournament in Kentucky.
The competition also showcased remarkable individual achievements.
Jarek captured 1st Place Middle School Boys, shooting a personal best of 291 along with a perfect 50.
Laila earned 2nd Place Middle School Girls, finishing with a score of 289 and a perfect
50.

We are proud to announce that Rosalie’s artwork was selected as the official cover design for the 2025–2026 Semmes Middle School Yearbook! Earlier this year, Rosalie won the schoolwide yearbook art competition with her creative and Bulldog-inspired design that truly captures the spirit and memories of SMS.
As the winner of the competition, Rosalie received a FREE yearbook to celebrate her accomplishment and lasting contribution to this year’s publication.

In celebration of America’s 250th birthday, St. Luke’s 5th Grade Wax Museum brought history to life in the most unforgettable way! Our annual tradition was truly fantastic—it felt as though some of history’s most influential figures stepped right onto campus to share their stories and accomplishments.
Students carefully researched their chosen historical figures, transformed into them through costume and character, and stood perfectly still until a visitor “pressed the button.” With that cue, each figure came to life, delivering a speech before returning to their frozen pose—captivating audiences with both creativity and knowledge.
This special tribute not only honored our nation’s history but also showcased the curiosity, confidence, and hard work of our students. A remarkable experience and a meaningful way to celebrate 250 years of America!

“History Makers Start Here” was the perfect theme for this year’s Oratorical Contest and Black History Month Celebration at W. H. Council Traditional Magnet School. Our students captivated the audience with powerful poetry performances delivered with confidence, expression, and heart.
We also enjoyed the remarkable talent of the B.C. Rain High School Choir for their amazing performance, under the inspiring direction of Mr. Roderick Frye.
On behalf of our school community, we extend our sincere appreciation to our distinguished guest judges and speakers. We are truly grateful that you took time out of your busy schedules to support this important occasion and for encouraging our “History Makers” to continue striving for their place in the world.

ACCEL students were honored at a special celebration alongside local community leaders for completing the inaugural AOTCS Youth Force cohort. Over the past four months, these dedicated students have committed 40+ hours each month to immersing themselves in the world of operational technology—building skills, expanding their knowledge, and preparing for future opportunities in this critical field.

Clark-Shaw’s STEM team recently traveled to Bishop State Community College to compete in the STEM Day Competition. Students showcased their creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills throughout the day, earning top honors in several events. The team brought home 1st place in the banner competition with their “Engineering Our World” design, 2nd place in the Egg Drop challenge, and 3rd place in the Water Bottle Rocket event. Congratulations Eagles on an outstanding job and for making us proud!

Psalm 133:1 states; Behold, how good and pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in unity. Cypress Grove Academy came together for field day and worked together in unity competing in relay games. Students were divided into teams based on the CGA house structure which allowed them to compete alongside the housemates they have been in a group with all year. Go Deer, Herron, Mink and Alligators! God showed out providing a beautiful afternoon under the sun!

Taylor-White Elementary was honored recently as a Purple Star School by the Alabama State Department of Education. This honor reflects the school’s commitment to supporting and celebrating its military-connected students and families. Taylor-White celebrated Purple Up Day in April by writing cards for its military families and wearing purple to honor and support its military kids.

Congratulations to the Davidson Hi-Q team, which earned second place in the Hi-Q National Contest. The Warriors finished an amazing season after defeating Murphy and McGill-Toolen in the Mobile County Hi-Q championship.

St. Luke’s Japonica Campus “erupted” with excitement as 4th-grade students showcased their Annual Volcano Day in front of an enthusiastic crowd!
This beloved tradition reinforces their understanding of volcanic activity while making learning fun and engaging. It was truly an “explosive” day for students, teachers, and spectators alike!

In May, seventeen UMS-Wright students in grades 8–11 competed in the Alabama Bandmasters Association Solo and Ensemble Festival at Central Baldwin Middle School in Robertsdale. Every solo and ensemble performance earned a Superior rating, the highest distinction awarded, resulting in a total of 34 medals earned by UMS-Wright students!

Clark Shaw’s math team participated in the Mission Possible Math Inspire Math Competition April 28th at Blount High School. We had top scores in the written test by 6th grader Clara Eaton, 7th grader Taylor Maddox, and 8th grader Roxson Odom. In ciphering, the team placed 2nd in the Magnet division. Ciphering is a fast-paced round where students have just 90 seconds to solve each problem—the quicker the answer, the more points they earn. The team came out on top with 1st overall in the Magnet division!
We are incredibly proud of our students for their hard work, quick thinking, and dedication. Way to represent Clark-Shaw!

We are so proud of our 2026 ACTE Region 7 Tech Fair winners for their hard work, creativity, and innovation. Sponsors, Ms. Claiborne and Ms. Asberry, took on the challenge and guided students in producing amazing outcomes. Seeing their dedication pay off with those trophies and medals is the highlight of our year.
Next Stop: The ACTE STATE Technology Fair at the University of Montevallo. We can’t wait to see these bright minds represent our school on the state stage.

Samuel Massengill, a 5th grade student at E.R. Dickson Elementary School, was selected to compete at the state level for the Special Olympics. He was surprised by his friends and teachers to celebrate the big news. We are all so proud of you and can’t wait for you to compete at state, Samuel!

Mary G. Montgomery High School Red Ribbon Leader Brady Dobbs was awarded the Courtney Upton Leadership Scholarship by the Drug Education Council for his outstanding community service project. Brady collected food and winter clothing items from students to donate to Vets Recover, and he organized a day for students to work in the nonprofit organization’s Rooted in Recovery gardens.

The Scholars Bowl teams from Barton Academy for Advanced World Studies and Causey Middle School finished first and second, respectively, in the South Alabama Academic Competition Association Super Tournament held recently at MCPSS Central Office. Barton defeated Causey in the final match to earn the title of Super Tournament champion, with both teams taking home hardware from the tournament and season. Causey’s Evan McFarland was the second-place individual scorer through the season and Barton Academy’s Aiva Agato was fourth.

Parker Davis, a 5th grade student at E.R. Dickson Elementary School, raised and donated a total of $346 to The Cleft Center at The Children’s Hospital of Alabama! He led a school-wide fundraiser in which students and staff were invited to donate $2 in order to wear jeans to school. This money will be used to help fund surgeries for children with cleft lip and cleft palate. This is the fifth time that Parker has led this fundraiser, which has raised a grand total of $3,913.79!

Accel Academy proudly celebrates students Keimiren Thompson, Rayshun Todd, and Terrance Sumrall on their signing day with Austal USA. Surrounded by support from their teacher, Mrs. Casher, these students are taking an important step toward their future careers and workforce success. Their dedication, hard work, and commitment to excellence have opened the door to this exciting opportunity. Accel Academy is proud to recognize their achievement and wishes them continued success as they begin their journey with Austal USA.

Two students from Barton Academy for Advanced World Studies and one from Alma Bryant High recently earned honors in an essay contest sponsored by the University of South Alabama’s Phi Sigma Iota Language Honor society. Barton Academy’s Berkley Mastin and Willow Lewis (left) placed first and second, respectively, in German and Alma Bryant’s Nayambe Bryan Hodgson (right) won in the Spanish category for their essays on the topic of resilience.

Congratulations to the UMS-Wright Lacrosse team on capturing back-to-back GSSL Conference Championships! The Bulldogs secured the title with an impressive 10–6 victory over the Lower Alabama Bayhawks. Several individuals were recognized for their exceptional performances, with Allen Moore earning MVP honors, Wrenn Landers being named Defensive MVP, and Richard Scott receiving Offensive MVP. Head Coach Drew Warren was also honored as Coach of the Year for his leadership and dedication in guiding the team to another championship season.

Congratulations to Davidson High School’s Owen Farmer, who has earned a corporate-sponsored National Merit Scholarship. Farmer, who plans to study aerospace engineering at Mississippi State, was awarded a scholarship sponsored by Ingalls Shipbuilding Division . He is one of four National Merit Finalists from MCPSS schools. Two more rounds of National Merit scholarships will be announced in the coming weeks.

Davidson High School’s NJROTC program has earned an “Outstanding” inspection rating and the honor of Distinguished Unit with Academic Honors for the 2025–2026 school year!
In a letter to Superintendent Threadgill, Regan J. Kieff, GS‑13, Navy JROTC Area‑16 Citizenship Development Manager, wrote:
“As a result of this outstanding team effort, Davidson NJROTC will receive an ‘Outstanding’ inspection grade. This is a particularly noteworthy achievement, as the ‘Outstanding’ designation is earned by only a select few. Out of 29 units inspected, Davidson NJROTC is one of only five to receive this honor, placing them in very distinguished company. Their program proudly serves as a model of excellence for other schools to emulate throughout Area‑16.”
This recognition from the U.S. Navy reflects the hard work, discipline, and dedication of our cadets, along with the exceptional leadership of our NJROTC instructors and administrators.

Mobile County Public Schools Superintendent Chresal D. Threadgill has been selected as the Alabama PTA Outstanding Superintendent of the Year. This prestigious award is a recognition of Mr. Threadgill’s leadership at MCPSS, which has resulted in an all-time high State Report Card grade of an 83/B, an increase in the graduation rate, enhanced school security measures, sound financial practices, and new community engagement and recognition programs. “Mr. Threadgill’s leadership continues to make a lasting impact. He is present in our schools, engaged with our families, and committed to ensuring every child has the opportunity to succeed,” said Mobile County Council PTA President Tawonia Napier. The honor, announced in Montgomery, is the latest in a long list of accolades that Mr. Threadgill has earned since taking the reins at #TeamMCPSS in 2018, including his selection as Alabama’s Superintendent of the Year in 2021 and District 1 Superintendent of the Year in 2024.

Citronelle High School’s Allianna Byrd, Laney Rutland, Kinnery Goldman and Wren Melvin won the inaugural Alabama Power Hack-a-Thon: Grid Games. They won $500 and represented Mobile County at the state competition in Birmingham. Davidson’s Amir Calderon, Jeremy Bettis, Lauren Davis and Clara Walker finished second, and Citronelle’s Charly Davis, Kellan Gray, Dylan Croom and JD Williams placed third.

In celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, the Alabama Department of Education has named Lott Middle School in Citronelle as a Semiquincentennial School. The America 250 Alabama Semiquincentennial School program helps students to understand the importance of participating in and contributing to their communities, state and country. Lott students created special history projects and presented them at a showcase to commemorate the honor. Corpus Christi Catholic School Middle School team made us proud at the Catholic Challenge Cup with an outstanding showing marked by faith, teamwork, and exceptional sportsmanship. Representing our school with honor and enthusiasm, the team earned 1st Place in Church History and 2nd Place in Sacraments. Their dedication, commitment, and love for the Faith were evident throughout the competition and continue to inspire our entire school community. Congratulations to St. Mary’s Catholic School D6 Soccer Team on their championship victory! Since 2nd grade, this incredible group of student athletes has never lost a game- a true testament to their dedication, teamwork, and perseverance. They have faced every challenge with grace, supported one another, and played with heart every step of the way. This team truly embodies what it means to be a Mustang.

Alma Bryant High School was named one of Alabama’s eight Banner Schools by the Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools for its hands-on Agriculture Program! Teacher Brian Ladnier and students care for cows and goats, raise hogs, and grow satsuma trees and other plants in a greenhouse. Grand Bay Middle and Semmes Elementary were also recognized as Schools of Distinction during the annual CLAS awards luncheon in Prattville. The CLAS Banner School program recognizes school programs that serve as outstanding educational models for other schools in Alabama.

Corpus Christi Catholic School athletes made a strong statement this spring at the CYO Soccer Tournament, competing at a high level across every division and bringing home multiple championships. The Cougars claimed titles in Division 5/6 (5th grade), Division 4, and Division 3, while also finishing as runners-up in Division 2 and with the Division 5/6 (6th grade) team. Nearly every team advanced to a championship match, an impressive reflection of the program’s depth and consistency.
The Division 5/6 5th grade team secured their championship with a hard-fought win over St. Dominic Catholic School. In Division 4, the Cougars earned a decisive victory against St. Ignatius Catholic School, while the Division 3 team defeated Christ the King Catholic School to bring home another title. Each match highlighted the players’ determination and ability to rise to the moment.
The Division 2 team and the 6th grade Division 5/6 team also delivered strong performances as runners-up, competing with intensity and representing Corpus Christi with pride.
Weather delays pushed championship games to Monday, May 4th, but the Cougars stayed focused and returned ready to compete, continuing their success.
Throughout the season, these student-athletes showed grit, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Their success was supported by dedicated coaches who invested in their growth on and off the field.
Corpus Christi’s performance was just shy of a clean sweep, with a team competing for a championship in every division offered. The school extends its appreciation to Catholic Youth Organization for a great season and a well-run tournament.

A second Davidson High School student has earned a perfect 36 on the ACT. Junior Tyler Macon joins classmate Brayden Sadler in this outstanding accomplishment, placing them in the top 99.5th – 100th percentile nationwide. Tyler competes on Davidson’s state-champion HiQ team and its regional-champion scholar’s bowl team and has won several Alabama History Day Awards for his projects. As a middle-schooler, he was selected as the MCPSS countywide Learning Leading Award winner for exemplifying the district’s slogan of “Learning Today. Leading Tomorrow.” Sixty-four Davidson students have earned at least a 30 on the ACT; they were recognized at a school luncheon recently.

The month of May is a beautiful reminder of love, devotion, and gratitude. At St. Ignatius, we began the month with the May Crowning, during which our eighth-grade girls, accompanied by their kindergarten helpers, crown Mary, the Mother of Jesus. Mother Mary is a perfect example of a mother’s love; she is faithful, selfless, and full of compassion. We are grateful for Mother Mary and for all the dedicated mothers at St. Ignatius. This year, Mary was crowned by Charlotte Sellers, with assistance from kindergarten girls Briella Lee, Arden Paisley Tulowitski and Margot Zoghby.

Our 4th graders brought Alabama History to life with their annual Wax Museum featuring Famous Alabamians. Students researched influential figures from our state’s history, then stepped into character as living exhibits to share their knowledge through engaging presentations. This hands-on tradition builds confidence, public speaking skills, and a deeper appreciation for the people who helped shape Alabama.

Congratulations to these middle school scholars for defeating all the competition to take home the title of Catholic Cup Champion in the Archdiocese of Mobile! The Catholic Cup Challenge is a trivia competition that tests participants’ knowledge of the faith. St. Ignatius forms leaders in mind, body, and spirit. Satsuma City Schools celebrated the opening of its new Central Office with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The event was attended by board members, city officials, staff and community leaders.
“This move allows us to put students first in a very real way,” said Superintendent Dana Price. “By relocating our Central Office, we are giving Lee Elementary back eight classrooms and additional student and faculty spaces at a time when enrollment has continued to grow.”
Since the 2020–2021 school year, Lee Elementary has increased enrollment by 83 students. This growth has resulted in additional state-funded teaching units and a greater demand for classroom space. The space previously occupied by the Central Office will now serve as a new sixth-grade hallway, helping the school better accommodate its expanding student population.|
The new Central Office also introduces features that were not previously available, including:
– Dedicated training spaces for teacher professional learning and collaboration
– A permanent boardroom for meetings and district functions
– Improved workspace for district departments and services
– A bus maintenance shop to support transportation operations
– Capacity for future district growth
Additional Satsuma City Schools projects include renovations to faculty restrooms at Satsuma High School, a lighting retrofit funded by an Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs grant for both gyms and several classrooms, and the development of new office space in the Lee Annex building. Technology installation is also underway in the new sixth-grade wing at Lee Elementary.
