Old Shell Road School of Creative and Performing Arts 4th and 5th grade students performed “Summer Camp” the musical in March at Murphy High School. Students participated by singing, dancing, acting, and designing the set. We are so proud of our OSR performers.

Bright Academy recently held a Career Day for our students. The day brought our community to life as local businesses filled our halls with energy, expertise, and genuine enthusiasm for their work. Students had the chance to meet professionals from a wide range of fields, each sharing not only what they do, but why they love doing it. From hands‐on demonstrations to inspiring conversations, our guests helped students imagine new possibilities for their futures and see how passion can shape a career. The day was a warm reminder of the strength of our school’s partnerships and the power of real‐world learning.

The 7th Graders, along with some help from the 6th Graders at St. Pius X performed the Living Stations the week before Holy Week. They gave the audience an up close view of the steps that Jesus endured to The Cross.

Semmes Middle School Track & Field Girls & Boys won the Mobile County Public School Championship! This is a great group of kids! Go Bulldogs! Way to represent!

Mobile County Public Schools recognized four top students for the impact they are making at their schools and in the community, surprising them in their classrooms this week with district-wide Learning Leading Awards.
They are: Rylan Besaw of Gilliard Elementary School, Anniston Byrd of McDavid-Jones Elementary School, Benjamin Stringfellow of Phillips Preparatory School, and Farah Hujier of Davidson High School.
Each of MCPSS’s 90 schools honored a Learning Leading student who exemplifies the district’s motto of: “Learning Today. Leading Tomorrow.” From those, a committee selected the four countywide winners. All 90 students were honored at the Learning Leading Awards on April 23.
These students all have a few things in common: They are kind, they go out of their way to help others, and they have the utmost character and integrity to represent their schools with honor.
MCPSS is proud of all 90 students for the work they are doing at their schools. They truly embody the spirit of learning and leading at MCPSS.

Rylan Besaw, a fifth-grader at Gilliard Elementary School, is a straight-A student who is known for his inspiring leadership and a heart for service. Rylan has impressed his teachers by going the extra mile to master new concepts and by approaching his lessons with curiosity, determination, and a desire to do his very best. Rylan is the school’s Flag Pole Representative, a role that he serves with responsibility and pride. In his free time at Gilliard, he tutors first-graders who are struggling with reading. He also enjoys volunteer work, most recently wrapping Christmas presents to bring joy to underserved families in the Gilliard community. Rylan is known for leading with patience and encouragement, and for always taking the initiative to help others.
Anniston Byrd, a fifth-grader at McDavid-Jones Elementary, is in the gifted and talented program (Pursuing Academics, Creativity, and Excellence, or PACE), where she is known as a very driven, engaging and curious student who doesn’t mind taking risks and has high academic standards. She is a member of the National Elementary Honor Society and a member of the Wildcat National News broadcast team. Anniston is an independent thinker who understands how to work as part of a team and to lift up those around her. As a leader among her classmates, she often takes the initiative to help others, and is appreciated for her cheerful nature and her openness to feedback. Outside of the classroom, Anniston is a versatile athlete who plays volleyball and soccer. As a member of Restoration Church, where she sings with the children’s ministry, Anniston has taken part in community service projects that include lawn care for senior citizens, delivering groceries to families in need and water donations to the local fire department, and spreading holiday cheer by organizing a Christmas gift drive.
Benjamin Stringfellow, an eighth-grader at Phillips Preparatory School, earns straight As in the International Baccalaureate magnet program, serves as the Student Government Association President, and is a member of the National Junior Honor Society. He is a member of the MCPSS Honor Band and has devoted two years to the robotics team, where he has earned praise for making thoughtful, responsible choices. Ben is known as a kind, dependable and encouraging leader, whose integrity has earned him the respect of his teachers and peers. His leadership skills also came to the fore after his team lost the middle school football championship, when he stood tall and supported his teammates. His football coach noted, “Ben never makes excuses. … As the teacher and coach, I am supposed to be a role model to Ben, but he is honestly a better role model to me.” Outside of school, he volunteers at multiple community organizations with the missions team at Christ United Methodist Church. According to Johnnie Williams, Phillips Preparatory Principal: “Ben’s determination, character, leadership and unwavering commitment to doing the right thing make him a truly outstanding student and a positive influence on everyone around him.”
Farah Hujier, a senior at Davidson High School, has thrived in the school’s rigorous International Baccalaureate program, driven by her love of chemistry and a clear sense of purpose for her future. She has been accepted into several highly selective schools, including the University of Michigan and Georgia Tech, and plans to earn a degree in chemical engineering, with the long-term goal of developing medicines and contributing to scientific advancements that improve lives. She is known as a curious, enthusiastic learner who asks thoughtful questions and has a deep respect for education, hard work and perseverance. One of the most outstanding examples of her leadership skills is her work to jump-start the Warriors’ robotics program, after changes in the competition created new challengers and participation had declined. Farah recruited new members, worked with faculty sponsors and sparked a fresh enthusiasm that led to the team dominating local and regional competitions in the fall, claiming the first place BEST Award and earning second place in robot performance against 23 teams from across the southeast. Farah has also shown impressive leadership with Davidson’s Model United Nations program, debating complex global issues with poise and focus and demonstrating a willingness to engage in meaningful dialogue. She is also a Student Government Representative, a member of the French Club, and a two-season cross-country athlete. As the daughter of Syrian immigrants, Farah has grown up witnessing her parents’ sacrifices as they rebuilt their lives and careers in the United States. This experience has developed her into a leader who has pride in her identity and empathy for others facing hardship.

The LWCC Kingdom Academy 8th Grade students had the incredible opportunity to serve as Pages on the Senate floor at the Alabama State House. This unique experience allowed them to witness government in action while serving alongside state senators and other government leaders.
During their visit, the students were imparted with wisdom, leadership insights, and encouragement from Senator Vivian Davis Figures, House Representative Barbara Drummond, and our very own, Dr. Levy H. Knox, as well as many other leaders. Their words inspired our students to pursue leadership, civic responsibility, and excellence in their future endeavors.
The trip was a tremendous success as the students were able to observe the legislative process firsthand while bills were actively being passed on the Senate floor. Experiences like this provide our scholars with real-world learning opportunities that extend beyond the classroom.
We are proud of our students for representing LWCC Kingdom Academy with excellence and integrity. These memorable 3 days at the Alabama State House will surely leave a lasting impact on their understanding of leadership, government, and service. At Lee Elementary School, a meaningful transition is underway — one that honors years of dedicated service while embracing a promising future.
After a distinguished career in education, Principal Suzanne Bahr will retire at the end of this school year, leaving behind a legacy defined by student-centered leadership, strong community partnerships, and a dedication to high-quality education.
Following approval by the Satsuma City Schools Board of Education, Assistant Principal Heather Roe has been named the next principal of Lee Elementary School.
This transition is especially meaningful given the leaders’ shared history. Bahr and Roe stepped into their current roles at the same time, beginning in the 2020-2021 school year. Over the past six years, they have worked side by side to build a foundation of trust, collaboration, and shared vision that has helped shape the school’s environment and success. Both Bahr and Roe share a history of excellence in education. In 2017, each was recognized as Teacher of the Year — Bahr at Lee Elementary School and Roe at Satsuma High School.
Roe brings more than 15 years of experience in public education and a deep connection to the Satsuma community. A graduate of Satsuma High School (Class of 2003), she began her teaching career at Murphy High School, where she taught English Language Arts from 2008 to 2012. She returned to Satsuma High School, where she taught from 2012 to 2020.
Roe is widely regarded as a thoughtful, steady leader who prioritizes relationships and consistency. Colleagues describe her as leading with both empathy and clarity, balancing high expectations with a deep understanding of student and staff needs. As she steps into the principal role, Roe is expected to build on Lee Elementary’s success while continuing to foster a collaborative culture focused on academic growth, innovation, and the whole-child approach that defines the school’s success.
Under their leadership, Lee Elementary has consistently earned an A on every state report card and has built a reputation for strong academic performance and a positive school culture. The school was named an ARI Spotlight School in 2023 and has been recognized as a CLAS School of Distinction. It is currently under consideration for CLAS Banner School for District 5 for its Milestones and Masterpieces project.
While Bahr prepares to begin her well-earned retirement, her influence will continue to be felt throughout the school — in the culture she cultivated, the relationships she built, and the countless students she inspired.

Recently, St. Ignatius celebrated all of the Impala moms with a sweet morning of coffee & donuts before school.
Moms are the ones who wake before the sun, quietly preparing for a day that will revolve around everyone but themselves. They are the steady voices in moments of doubt, the gentle hands that comfort, and the constant presence that makes a house feel like home. Moms are the ones who listen when words are hard to find, who show up again and again, at games, at school events, at bedtime, never asking for recognition.
They are teachers of the little things that become the big things: kindness, patience, honesty, and love. Through their actions, they show what it means to serve others, to forgive freely, and to keep going even when it’s hard.
And in all they do, moms reflect a deeper truth, they are living examples of faith in action, guiding their children with love.

At a special reception, the Bulldogs United Mobile Torchbearer Team proudly presented a portrait of Dr. William Hooper Council, founder of Alabama A&M University and namesake of Council Traditional School, to Ms. Allison Streeter, principal of W. H. Council Traditional Magnet School. The meaningful presentation celebrated Dr. Council’s enduring legacy of leadership, education, and service. This moment served as a powerful reminder of the shared history and values that continue to inspire the Council community today.

At St. Ignatius, Buddy Mass is a once a month tradition where older Impalas sit with their younger buddy at Mass then join for an activity or service project after Mass.
Recently, in honor of Read Across America, students were asked to bring one of their favorite books to read together. The Buddy Program helps strengthen our spirit of community on campus and gives our older Impalas a chance to practice their leadership skills.

St. Luke’s Center Stage proudly presented SpongeBob the Musical: Youth Edition, and it was nothing short of phenomenal. From the incredible performances to the vibrant set and nonstop energy, our students brought Bikini Bottom to life in the most unforgettable way.
The dedication, creativity, and talent of our cast and crew were on full display, making this year’s Spring Musical a true standout. We are incredibly proud of each student who contributed to this production—on stage and behind the scenes—for delivering a show that captivated audiences and showcased the very best of St. Luke’s.

ACCEL Academy was formally recognized as one of Alabama’s safest schools as Attorney General Steve Marshall visited the campus to present the 2025 Safe School Award, a distinction awarded to only nine schools statewide.
The award, issued through the Alabama Safe Schools Initiative, recognizes schools that exceed state standards in campus safety, student support, and proactive planning. Out of more than 1,500 public and private schools across Alabama, ACCEL Academy was selected for its comprehensive and intentional approach to creating a secure learning environment.
Nathan Adams, ACCEL Evening Academy Administrator and Director of Transportation and Safety, emphasized that the recognition reflects a shared commitment across the school community. He noted that the award speaks to the culture built within the school, where strong campus security measures and meaningful mental health support contribute to an environment where students feel safe, supported, and ready to learn.
The Alabama Safe Schools Initiative evaluates applicants through a comprehensive review process that includes safety training, coordination with emergency responders, security infrastructure, and community engagement. Schools selected for the award demonstrate a commitment to exceeding state expectations.
For ACCEL Academy, the recognition reflects years of intentional effort to build a culture where students feel safe, supported, and prepared to succeed.
“This is a special place led by very special people,” Marshall said. “The reason they do it is so that the young people here leave with the opportunity for very special lives.”

St. Luke’s middle school students recently stepped into the role of medical professionals, diving into detailed patient case studies complete with symptoms, vital signs, and advanced test results—from neurological exams to EMGs and spinal fluid analysis.
Using their critical thinking skills, they analyzed the data and determined a possible diagnosis—just like real doctors.
To take their learning even further, students participated in a hands-on lab in which they dissected a lamb’s brain. Each specimen contained a simulated medical issue, challenging students to locate the affected area and connect it back to their original diagnosis.

Archbishop Rivituso joined Chad Barwick, Superintendent of Catholic Schools, for a visit at Little Flower Catholic School. They visited every classroom and had lively conversations with students. This visit happened to fall on the same day that the students were preparing Easter baskets to bring to the residents at the Little Sisters of the Poor. The archbishop seemed to enjoy the high energy associated with the creation of the baskets. All together, Little Flower students made 66 baskets with toiletry items, decorative items, candy, and original artwork in each basket, along with wishes for a Happy Easter.

We are excited to celebrate Lauren Higgins recent achievement of earning the Congressional Award Bronze Medal, along with her Bronze, Silver, and Gold Certificates; a meaningful milestone that recognizes her dedication to service, personal growth, physical health, and exploration.
This achievement reflects months of perseverance, goal-setting, and heart-centered effort.
Through volunteer projects, creative initiatives, leadership involvement, and personal growth, Lauren has demonstrated remarkable determination and resilience.
Receiving the Bronze Medal is an exciting step in her ongoing journey, and the additional certificates honor the many hours she has already invested across multiple program areas.
Lauren’s accomplishments are a beautiful example of what can happen when dedication meets purpose.
Heartwood is proud of her hard work and looks forward to cheering her on as she continues toward her silver medal!

The HCA Archery Team delivered an outstanding performance at Baker’s “Hit Me with Your Best Shot” Bullseye and 3D Tournaments, earning 2nd place as a High School Team in 3D with an impressive team score of 1518.
Competing against strong fields, our high school archers took 2nd place as a team in the 3D division, finishing with an impressive score of 1518 and demonstrating skill, perseverance, and growth throughout.
Several athletes achieved new personal milestones:
* Laila secured 1st place in Bullseye and 2nd place in 3D, showing great consistency and focus.
* Logan Allen achieved a personal best score in 3D, reaching his goal through consistent dedication.
* Jax achieved a personal best score in 3D, showing ongoing improvement and confidence.
* Lacie placed 5th in 3D and 8th in Bullseye, also achieving her personal best and meeting her goal.
Additional strong finishes completed the team’s success.
* Logan Evans finished 5th in 3D and 8th in Bullseye.
* Natalie earned 8th place in 3D and 10th place in Bullseye.
* Scotty secured 9th place in 3D, boosting the team’s overall momentum.
Beyond tournament results, the program remains committed to growth, coachability, and character development. Each month, the Super Trooper Awards honor archers who show exceptional effort by listening to feedback, trusting the process, and intentionally working to improve their form. January’s Super Troopers, Fae Schuchardt and Logan Evans, were recognized for their patience, determination, and focus, exemplifying perseverance in action.

Rishi Gupta, a St. Luke’s student since preschool, has achieved a remarkable academic milestone by earning a 36 on the ACT. This outstanding accomplishment places him among an elite group of students nationwide. Only 0.2% of ACT test-takers earn a 36, and in a typical year, just 3,000–4,000 students out of approximately 1.4–1.8 million achieve this distinction.
Rishi’s dedication, hard work, and commitment to excellence have truly paid off. His journey at St. Luke’s reflects years of academic growth, curiosity, and perseverance.

St. Luke’s lower-campus students had a great time collaborating to build ROVs (remote-operated vehicles) to maneuver underwater during science lab! Thank you to the Dauphin Island Sea Lab for providing our underwater robotic kits. We loved using our creative engineering skills to explore the underwater world!

Little Flower celebrated the feast of St. Joseph with a beautiful St. Joseph’s Altar. This traditional devotion started in Sicily during a famine. When the faithful turned to St. Joseph, their patron saint, for intercession, the famine came to an end. In gratitude, a huge table was spread with all the bounty from their harvest. The St. Joseph’s Altar displayed bread loaves fashioned into the shape of tools that St. Joseph may have used. Students attended Mass and asked for St. Joseph’s intercession.

Students from Little Flower Catholic School spent the day at the Sacred Heart Residence where the elderly poor are lovingly taken care of by the Little Sisters of the Poor and their staff. The students learned about service, sacrifice, and helping others. The group toured the home, met the residents, staff, and the sisters, who explained about their mission. The students attended Mass and enjoyed a picnic lunch in the courtyard. The presence of young people always brings joy to the residents at the Little Sisters.

Davidson High School’s HiQ team won the championship! Out of 18 teams, they faced McGill-Toolen and Murphy in the finals and took home the trophy!

Farah Hujier, IB and EPIC senior at Davidson High School, was selected for the Learning Leading Award out of all MCPSS High Schools. She is a National Merit Commended Scholar who is headed to the University of Michigan to study chemical engineering. In her time at Davidson, she was a standout on the Robotics team and played a pivotal role in her senior year, recruiting younger members and leading her team to sweep at competition.

Covenant Academy of Mobile proudly celebrates CAMster Tristan L. for his outstanding achievement at the Alabama Consortium for Technology in Education (ACTE) Region 7 Tech Fair, held in partnership with the University of South Alabama. Tristan earned 3rd place in Level 2 (grades 7–8) Graphic Design, continuing a strong track record of excellence in the competition.
Last year, Tristan placed 2nd and advanced to the state level, making this year’s recognition another impressive milestone in his continued growth and creativity in digital design.

Congratulations to Council 5th-grader Baileigh Mosley-Stokes for earning 2nd place at the 99th Annual Mobile County Public School System Spelling Bee. The competition, held in February, was at Mary G. Montgomery High School and presented by the 68 Ventures Bowl, featured 52 outstanding participants from across the district.
Carson Floyd of Grand Bay Middle School claimed first place, while Baileigh proudly represented W. H. Council Traditional Magnet School with a strong second-place finish. Aaryan Sharma of Denton Magnet School of Technology earned third place.
We are incredibly proud of Baileigh and congratulate all of this year’s talented spellers on a job well done.

At Covenant Christian School, learning healthy habits can be both fun and delicious. This week, K4 through 2nd grade students are participating in the school’s beloved Healthy Food Feast, a long-standing tradition held during P.E. classes that encourages young learners to explore and enjoy nutritious foods. And in the spirit of Dr. Seuss Week, while students may have come ready for something whimsical, alas—no green eggs and ham were served!
During the activity, students are invited to taste-test a variety of fruits and vegetables. Each child gives a simple thumbs-up or thumbs-down after trying each item, turning the experience into a fun and interactive way to discover new favorites. From colorful fruits to crunchy vegetables, the tasting table offers a variety of options designed to expand students’ palates while teaching them how healthy foods help fuel their growing bodies—no food dye required.
The event is led by P.E. teacher Coach Amy Powell, who personally prepares the food for the students. Every fruit and vegetable is carefully washed and hand-cut before the activity, ensuring the tasting experience is fresh, safe, and appealing for the children.
Her dedication helps create an inviting environment where students feel comfortable trying something new—whether they would try it in a box or with a fox is still up for debate.
One of the most meaningful parts of the Healthy Food Feast is the sense of shared discovery among classmates. Students often find encouragement from watching their friends bravely sample unfamiliar foods. This positive peer influence frequently inspires even the most hesitant eaters to take a bite, turning the activity into a room full of smiles, laughter, and adventurous taste-testers.
Beyond simply tasting food, the event also reinforces an important message rooted in the school’s faith-based mission: the good things God created are meant to nourish and care for our bodies. Teachers use the opportunity to remind students that fruits and vegetables are part of God’s good creation—foods that help keep them strong, energetic, and ready to learn and play.
As students continue to give their thumbs-up or thumbs-down throughout the week, one thing is certain—whether or not they prefer them here or there, trying new foods together has been a fun and meaningful experience for Covenant’s youngest Eagles.

There are few moments in the school year as meaningful as Grandparents Day, when we open our campus to the generations who help shape our students’ lives. This treasured tradition offers students the opportunity to celebrate their loved ones while giving grandparents and special family members a firsthand glimpse into the vibrant, Christ-centered spirit that defines our school community.
Our youngest students, from K3 through 5th grade, gathered in the church sanctuary to present a heartfelt musical program. Their joyful songs celebrating family and faith were a highlight of the morning and a touching reminder of the spirit that fills our classrooms each day.
Meanwhile, our junior high students offered an engaging showcase of their talents and academic growth. From an entertaining mock trial that drew laughter and applause, to thoughtful poetry readings and creative skits inspired by their science and history lessons, students demonstrated both confidence and creativity. Their performances reflected not only what they are learning, but who they are becoming.
Following the programs, families gathered in the gymnasium for refreshments, fellowship, and memory-making. Guests enjoyed photo opportunities, a student art show, and time together. The day continued with visits to our on-campus book fair, where students eagerly shared their love of reading with their grandparents.
With beautiful sunshine and a joyful atmosphere throughout the day, Grandparents Day was a true celebration. More than just an event, Grandparents Day served as a living example of our mission: to cultivate strong relationships rooted in faith, learning, and community.
As we reflect on this special occasion, we are reminded that education is not a journey taken alone. It is a partnership between school, family, and faith—what we proudly call our Covenant Connection. We are grateful for the opportunity to celebrate the families who support, encourage, and inspire our students each day.

Students showcased their creativity, coding skills, and design thinking while competing with other schools from across the region. Service is an essential part of life at Corpus Christi Catholic School, and our Disciples of St. Michael, a middle school service group, beautifully live out that mission. Recently, students spent time giving back at the Little Sisters of the Poor – Sacred Heart Residence, where they worked diligently to enhance the grounds. From cleaning flower beds and pulling thorns and weeds to spreading fresh mulch and trimming rose bushes, their efforts helped make the space even more welcoming for residents.

Congratulations to Covenant Christian School’s Scholars Bowl A Team for an outstanding season! The team has officially qualified for the SAACA Scholars Bowl Super Tournament after finishing 3rd in the Red Division—an impressive accomplishment that reflects both dedication and academic excellence.
The Super Tournament, will bring together the top teams from across the association for a highly competitive, fast-paced academic showdown.
CCS team selection was based on a combination of practice performance and individual scores during live matches, ensuring that Covenant’s roster represents both consistent preparation and strong in-game achievement. Scholars Bowl challenges students across a wide range of disciplines, including literature, science, history, mathematics, and current events, requiring not only content knowledge but also quick thinking, teamwork, and strategic communication.
This year’s Super Tournament is especially meaningful as the first full competition since
COVID, and Covenant is proud to continue its strong Scholars Bowl tradition—consistently qualifying and advancing to the final rounds twice. This success reflects the dedication of our students and families, whose commitment to early morning practices, consistent study, and a love of learning has prepared the team well. Through Scholars Bowl, students not only strengthen their academic knowledge but also develop confidence, discipline, and teamwork that extend beyond the classroom.

The production of The Little Mermaid, Jr. was a huge success! From start to finish, audiences were swept away into a magical underwater adventure filled with music, laughter, and unforgettable performances by our talented students.

Our middle school students recently took part in our annual speech contest, exploring the thought-provoking prompt: “Why we need both rules and freedom to have a fair country.” Each contestant demonstrated remarkable courage, insight, and passion while sharing their perspectives. We are incredibly proud of all who participated and extend a special congratulations to our winners: Maria Byrne (1st Place), Olivia Small (2nd Place), and Molly Stokes (3rd Place). Their voices truly stood out in an inspiring showcase of student leadership and critical thinking.

Congratulations to the newly inducted members of the Peek-Taylor Chapter of the National Elementary Honor Society, who were tapped in a special ceremony recognizing their outstanding achievements. We are exceedingly proud of our distinguished fourth- and fifth-grade students whose commitment to scholarship, responsibility, service, and leadership has earned them this notable honor.
A special thank you to our inspiring guest speaker, Ruth Annyarumbhatla, senior at Davidson High School and a proud alumna of W. H. Council Traditional Magnet School. Her words of encouragement made the celebration even more meaningful for our newest honorees.

We celebrated our students’ hard work for the third quarter here at Eichold Mertz Magnet School of Math, Science and Technology with our Academic Picnic! These photos feature our students from two different lunch waves. The students are enjoying the celebration. We are so proud of all their effort and achievements and a job well done.

Congratulations to Davidson High School’s Head Basketball Coach Diaz for being named the Crichton Optimist Club’s Coach of the YEAR, and to Ja’lyjawon Edwards for earning Player of the YEAR!

The I-LEAD Youth Summit, sponsored by the Mobile Area Education Foundation, brought together nominated students from across Mobile County to collaborate on a shared vision for youth success. Chandler Thomas ’26 and William Fillers ’28 serve on the I-LEAD Student Advisory Board and play an active role in leading the program!
Throughout the summit, students worked together to develop a “blueprint for youth success,” with the goal of sharing and implementing these ideas throughout our community.

Congratulations to Floretta P Carson Visual and Performing Arts Academy vocal students of Dr. Yuliya Brown, Stella Millhouse-Johnson and Ky’Rihanna Abston! Stella won 1st place in NSA NATS in Commercial Style category and Ky’Rihanna was awarded with 2nd place. Huge congratulations!

Davidson High Senior Sariah Hossain was presented with the Rising Young Leader Award at the City of Mobile’s Women’s History Month Changemakers Awards Ceremony. Sariah, a candidate for the prestigious U.S. Presidential Scholars Program, has been accepted to Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Columbia, the University of Pennsylvania, Johns Hopkins, NYU, Northwestern, Washington University, the University of Southern California, the University of Alabama, Auburn University, UAB, USA, Spring Hill College, and several other prestigious universities. She was recently named a National Merit Finalist.
Stephanie Bondora, a science teacher at Davidson High School, has received the Alabama State Science Fannie Mae Teacher of Promise Award. This award recognizes an outstanding early-career science educator in Alabama with less than three years of teaching experience. She was honored at the Alabama Science Teacher Association (ASTA) Conference in Tuscaloosa.
Citronelle High Career Coach Lakenda Craig was named a 2026 Changemakers Award recipient in the category of Industry, Trades, and Workforce at the Women’s History Month Awards Ceremony sponsored by City of Mobile Events. She was honored for her commitment to connecting students with real-world opportunities through internships, industry partnerships, and workforce experiences.
Scholarships for Future Educators. Lily Smith of Davidson High School and Bryant Career Technical Center; Caroline Carter of Davidson High; and Maddie Brown of Baker High were awarded scholarships from the Mobile Retired Educators Association. These outstanding students impressed the scholarship committee with their dedication, academic excellence, and passion for learning. The scholarships are awarded to students who plan to study to become teachers.
Annah Murray of Alma Bryant High has been selected as a member of the AHSAA Student Leadership Team. This statewide initiative empowers student-athletes to develop their leadership skills and promote sportsmanship within Alabama schools. Annah’s selection is a reflection of her leadership, character, and commitment to excellence.
Meredith Kelley of Baker High and Jackson Fox of Davidson High placed first and second, respectively, in representing Crichton Optimist Club at the Zone Oratorical Contest. In the Mobile Optimist Club Oratorical Contest, Ava Austin of Alma Bryant High took first place and Kimora Davis of Washington Middle School placed third.

W. H. Council Traditional Magnet School was honored as one of the Top 25 schools in the prestigious Legislative School Performance Recognition Program in Alabama. Council, along with three other Mobile County Public School System schools, was presented with an official resolution during the meeting of the Alabama State Board of Education in Montgomery.
We extend our sincere appreciation to the Alabama State Department of Education for this distinguished recognition. Most importantly, we offer a heartfelt thank you to our incredible Council community—our students, teachers, staff, and families. Your hard work, unwavering support, and dedication make Council a truly exceptional place to learn and grow.

Jennifer Asberry, the STEAM lab teacher at Council Traditional School, has been named as a finalist for Alabama’s Teacher of the Year by the Alabama State Board of Education.
Asberry, the MCPSS Elementary School Teacher of the Year, has taught at Council Traditional School since 2016. For the last five years, she has led Council’s STEAM lab, teaching science, technology, engineering, arts and math concepts to all grades at this historic magnet school near downtown Mobile.
In that capacity, Asberry created the school’s annual Family STEAM Night, a schoolwide evening event that attracts upwards of 250 attendees to visit multiple interactive learning stations and become engaged in collaborative learning. She also coordinates the school’s annual STEM Day Celebration, which is modeled on national events that promote awareness of these concepts to elementary students, and she serves as chair of the Fifth Grade Science Fair, leading student preparation classes and ensuring that projects are aligned with state science standards. She also sponsors two after-school science exploration clubs at Council.
Asberry is a UTEACH South Mentor, assisting STEM majors at the University of South Alabama. She has written elementary science curriculums and served on state-level ACAP Summative committees. She is active in several professional organizations, including the Alabama Science Teaching Association and the National Science Teaching Association.
An educator for more than 20 years, Asberry earned a Master of Education and a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from the University of South Alabama, as well as a secondary certification in English Language Arts. She believes that instruction must be experiential to be transformative, and always strives to spark a lifelong love of learning in her students.

Congratulations to piano major students of Dr. Yuliya Brown from Floretta P Carson Visual and Performing Arts Academy – Jada Johnson and Jackson Sanderson – for participating in Gulf Coast Steinway Competition. Numerous talented piano students from five states perform at this professional music competition. Jada was awarded 3rd place in lower high school category and Jackson received honorable mention award in middle school division. As one of the winners, Jada Johnson will perform in Carnegie Hall this summer. Congratulations!

One of our most cherished traditions at St. Mary’s is our 8th Grade Living Stations of the Cross.
During this Lenten season, our students prayerfully reenact Christ’s journey to the cross, reminding us of the sacrifice, love, and hope at the heart of our faith. Their reverence, dedication, and heartfelt performances make this experience truly moving each year.
We are so proud of our students for the beautiful job they did, and a special thank you to Mrs. Colleen Lee for coordinating such a meaningful and powerful tradition.

The 3rd Annual Teacher vs. Student Basketball Game was epic! The energy, excitement, and momentum were felt! Students did an amazing job representing the student body through sportsmanship and leadership! They brought the energy and our teachers didn’t let up! Although our students fell short in both games, they gave it their all!! Thanks to our teachers and students for playing and our dynamic PE Dept for organizing such a fun event!
