Classroom intentionality is important for student success, according to Anna Evans, a third-grade teacher at Dawes Elementary. She works hard to cultivate a positive environment where curiosity is encouraged and mistakes are viewed as opportunities for growth. Creating a classroom that meets students where they are allows them to feel safe, supported, and ultimately thrive throughout the school year.
“I decided to become a teacher because of the impact my fifth-grade teacher had on my life. She truly valued the relationships she built with her students and made every day exciting,” said Mrs. Evans. “I still remember her dancing to a song during class and thinking she was the most fun teacher. She created an environment where learning felt enjoyable, and she made every student feel important. That experience has stayed with me over the years. It reminded me that students may not remember every lesson you teach, but they will remember how you made them feel and the positive impact you had on their lives.”
This month, Mrs. Evans begins her eighth year in education and plans to incorporate a variety of teaching strategies to make learning meaningful for her students. She uses hands-on activities, technology, educational games, and collaborative learning to keep lessons engaging and enjoyable each day.
“Being selected as Teacher of the Month is incredibly meaningful to me, both personally and professionally. Personally, it is affirming to know that the time, care, and dedication I invest in my students and their families is making a positive impact. Teaching is more than a job to me; it is about building relationships, creating a safe and supportive classroom, and helping every child feel valued,” Mrs. Evans shared.
“Professionally, this recognition motivates me to continue growing and striving to be the best educator I can be. It is a reminder that the work we do each day matters, even the small moments that often go unnoticed. While I am extremely honored to receive this recognition, what means the most to me is knowing that I’ve made a difference in the lives of my students and their families.”
Maintaining a healthy work-life balance can be challenging, but Mrs. Evans has learned that there will always be more to do tomorrow. With that perspective, she intentionally protects her personal and family time. She cherishes spending time with her husband of five years and their three young children whenever she can.
