HCA STEAM Students Save Fred!

There was an important mission underway in Ellen Montjoy’s STEAM class recently: Save Fred!
Working together in small groups, students put their problem-solving skills to the test as they tackled a hands-on challenge involving Fred—a gummy worm who apparently needed a little help.
Armed with a variety of materials and a set of instructions, students worked together to figure out how to complete their mission successfully. The photos tell the story: there was plenty of concentration, collaboration, creative thinking, and fun along the way.
Activities like this are what make STEAM learning so engaging. STEAM- Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics- encourages students to experiment, think creatively, solve problems, and work together.
Mrs. Montjoy’s students certainly appeared ready for the challenge.
And according to the class report, the mission was a success: “STEAM – today we saved FRED.”
Way to go, HCA STEAM students. We’re glad Fred lived to see another day!

Creativity Comes to Life in HCA’s Creative Arts Class

A little imagination and a lot of tiny, colorful beads made for a creative day in Avery Castleberry’s Creative Arts class.
Students recently spent class time creating colorful designs with Perler beads, carefully arranging the small beads on pegboards to form pictures and patterns. From hearts and flowers to animals and other unique creations, students had plenty of opportunities to make each project their own.
Once the designs were complete, the beads were fused together with heat,
transforming hundreds of individual pieces into finished works of art.
The activity may look simple, but creating with Perler beads takes concentration, patience, attention to detail, and plenty of creativity. Students followed patterns, selected colors, and watched their designs come together one bead at a time.
Creative Arts gives HCA students an opportunity to slow down, use their imaginations, and enjoy the satisfaction of creating something with their own hands.
Judging by the colorful projects covering the tables, creativity was definitely in session. Great job, HCA artists!

Little Flower Catholic School Starts Off Strong

The school year at Little Flower Catholic School is off to a great start. New principal, Mallory Machen, started at the school in 2020 when the school was very small. Under great leadership, an expanded preschool, and the passing of the CHOOSE Act she has had the joy of watching the school grow to 220 students, with wait lists for multiple grade levels. After serving as the middle school social studies & religion teacher, she now takes the reins of leadership for the next chapter of Little Flower’s story. Her hope is to continue pushing for academic growth for all students, continuing to cultivate a positive, loving environment, and to set the school up for years of success in the future. “Little Flower felt like home my first year here. There is a special kind of love in this church and school community. Jesus is the center of who we are and what we do, and St. Therese, whose nickname The Little Flower, is where our school’s name comes from, gives us the model of doing little things with great love. Little Flower Catholic School is a testament to the power of that!”

Clark-Shaw Robotics Team Prepares for Competition

The Robotics Team is already hard at work preparing for an exciting year of competition. This year, the team will compete in the BEST Robotics Competition as well as several local robotics events.

They learned tool safety and proper use, as well as practiced using the hand drill, drill press, and belt sander. These hands-on projects have given students valuable experience while helping them practice teamwork, creativity, and technical skills.

The morning concluded with a reception for our students and parents.

FP Carson Academy Unveils New Visual Identity

Floretta P. Carson Visual and Performing Arts Academy has unveiled a new visual identity designed to more clearly reflect the creativity, excellence, community, and future of the school. The new logo was developed as part of the school’s Strategic Brand Development Initiative, which included input from students, families, faculty, staff, and community stakeholders. The work focused on strengthening how the school is represented visually while also helping define a clearer brand narrative for FP Carson Academy.
The new identity features a distinctive multicolor “C” inspired by the arts, paired with the school’s full name. Together, the elements create a more cohesive and recognizable visual system that can be used across school communications, digital platforms, printed materials, apparel, and other branded applications.
The logo was officially revealed to students and staff during an outdoor pep rally, creating a celebratory moment for the school community and marking an important step in the continued development of FP Carson Academy’s identity.
The visual identity will be introduced in phases as the school continues updating materials and resources.
Bold, distinctive, and unmistakably Carson, the new mark reflects both who FP Carson Academy is today and the future it is continuing to build.

ACCEL Academy Receives Five-Year Charter Renewal

ACCEL Academy has received a five-year charter renewal from the Alabama Public Charter School Commission, giving the school another reason to celebrate as we continue our 10th school year. The Commission unanimously approved the renewal for Acceleration Day and Evening Academy during its September meeting. ACCEL opened in 2017 as Alabama’s first public charter school, creating another educational option for scholars and families in Mobile.
Nearly a decade later, ACCEL continues to build on that foundation. What began with a commitment to provide scholars with a different pathway has grown to include expanded academic opportunities, college and career preparation, and experiences designed to help scholars prepare for success beyond graduation.
Reaching this milestone has been a shared effort. Our scholars and families are at the heart of ACCEL, supported each day by faculty and staff, school and district leadership, board members, community partners, and others who have invested in our work over the years.
The five-year renewal gives ACCEL the opportunity to continue building on the progress of the past decade while looking closely at what our scholars and families will need in the years ahead. That means continuing to strengthen academics, expand college and career pathways, and create opportunities that prepare scholars for life after ACCEL.
As we move forward, our commitment remains the same: to serve our scholars and families well, continue growing as a school community, and live out our promise to Accelerate to Excellence.

The Eagles are Moving with Mrs. Adams

St. Dominic is excited to introduce Movin’ with Mrs. Adams, a new program designed to help their youngest students build coordination, strengthen motor skills, and develop confidence through movement. Through fun, age-appropriate experiences, students have the opportunity to learn while developing important skills that support their overall classroom success.

St. Ignatius Students Became Colonists For A Day

Fourth-grade Impalas stepped back in time for Colonial Day! Students dressed the part, churned their own butter in authentic churns, and enjoyed it on biscuits generously donated by Big Bad Breakfast. They crafted corn husk dolls, whirligigs, and cup-and-ball toys, cut silhouettes, and recorded their adventures in colonial journals using feather quills and ink. A big thank you to Mobile’s own Fort Condé for teaching our students about colonial medicine, illnesses, and medical practices. There was plenty of old- fashioned fun with jacks, hoop-and stick, and other classic games, plus a lesson in hard work as students scrubbed their own PE uniforms on washboards. Covenant Christian School Students Gather for See You at the Pole

Covenant Christian School students, faculty, families and community guests gathered around the school’s flagpole on September 23 for See You at the Pole (SYATP), joining students across the country in a morning dedicated to prayer.
The student-led gathering gave Covenant students an opportunity to step forward in their faith, praying for their school, community, nation and one another. Students shared Scripture, led prayers and encouraged their classmates to have the courage to live out their faith beyond the walls of the school.
Covenant also welcomed special guests AJ Venatta, who led a prayer for the nation and its government leaders, and Ben Ward, who helped close the morning with prayer and worship.
One of the most meaningful parts of the morning was seeing students of different ages gather alongside teachers, parents and grandparents with a common purpose. It was a simple but powerful reminder of the words of Matthew 18:20: “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”
At Covenant Christian School, opportunities like See You at the Pole are an important part of encouraging students not only to grow academically, but also to become confident servant leaders who are prepared to live out their faith in their school and community.

Faith, Fun and All Things Apples at Covenant Christian School

Covenant Christian School’s youngest Eagles celebrated Johnny Appleseed with a week filled with faith, learning and, of course, all things apples!
Students learned about Johnny Appleseed and his love for God and others, providing a meaningful connection between history and faith. The week also tied beautifully into a lesson on the Fruit of the Spirit, as students talked about the kind of “fruit” God calls us to bear through our words and actions.
The learning continued across the classroom as students explored the parts of an apple, created apple diagrams, used sliced apples to stamp fall tree artwork, completed Johnny Appleseed writing activities and even made their own Johnny Appleseed hats.
And no apple celebration would be complete without a special treat! Students wrapped up the fun with apple cider ice cream and apple pie cookies.
At Covenant, some of the sweetest learning happens when faith, academics and hands-on fun come together — giving even our youngest Eagles opportunities to learn, create and grow.

Covenant Christian Cross Country Finishes Strong at Championship Meet

The results reflected a season of hard work, discipline, perseverance and steady improvement as Covenant’s runners continued to challenge themselves and one Another. Adding to a great day, Covenant’s cheerleaders brought tremendous energy and school spirit to the course, helping the Eagles bring home the coveted Spirit Award once again. A strong finish to a season marked by determination, growth and plenty of Eagle pride!
